Central Oregon's Premier Volleyball Club for Junior Girls, Ages 10-18
Turner Waskom (14 Nationals):Director of OVA, varsity coach at Summit High School; previously coached at Mountain View High and Redding High in Redding, CA. Coached club for the High Desert Volleyball Club in the late 90's and his 16's Elite team had the highest finish ever among a team from Central Oregon until last year when the OVA 16 Nationals team broke the record. Turner's OVA teams have consistently placed in the top 10 at Regionals and Power League and had very good results at National Qualifiers. Turner and his wife Jill, have won two state championships, coached in 5 state finals and coached four 5A Oregon Players of the Year (2006, 2009, 2011 and 2015); over a dozen All-State players, and numerous Division 1 and other collegiate level volleyball players - including Pac12 and other large and small universities. Turner currently works as a VP and Senior Business Lender for Craft3, a community development financial institution focused on deploying capital in order to ehance the economic vitality of rural communities.
Kate Hunter McBrien (College Recruiting Coordinator): Kate is the head volleyball coach at Mountain View High School and has been a sucessful coach for a long time. Previously, she was the Head Coach at Marin Catholic High School in the Bay Area and coached for the Absolute Volleyball Club. Her teams consistently ranked among the highest in the NCVA region and she coached her teams to top 20 finishes at Colorado Crossroads as well as qualifing for the USAV Junior National Championships. Kate played collegiately at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, where she is the record holder in numerous categories including career kills and aces.
Shawn Paulino (16 Nationals):Shawn was twice named the Oregon 2A Player of the Year and was All State four years in a row before going on to play collegiately at Gonzaga and Western Oregon Univ. where she was an all-star setter. She played club volleyball for Nike NW Juniors under legendary coach Rod Jones, where they had top finishes across the Pacific NW and beyond. Now in her sixth year with OVA, Shawn brings a wealth of experience and coaching savy to the players and her teams. In 2015, her 16 Nationals Team placed 4th at Regionals (highest finish ever by any 16's team from Central Oregon) and placed in the top 25 at both the Colorado Crossroads and Far Western National Qualifiers.
Randi Vigiano (18's):Randi has been coaching for the past 9 years in Central Oregon. She started her coaching career as an assistant at Crook County before taking over as the head coach at Culver High School. For the past 7 years she has been a head coach for Rimrock Volleyball club before making the transition to OVA. During her 6 years at Culver she has led her team to five top four finishes including a State Championship in 2012. Randi has been awarded her league’s Coach of the Year honor for the past 5 years and was also named 2012 2A Coach of the Year. Many of her club and high school players are competing at the collegiate level. Currently, Randi resides in Culver with her husband Nick and works at the High School as a school counselor.
Ban Tat (16 Elevate):Ban was a former player at Oregon State Univ, where he also helped coach the top OSU Women's Club team. He has coached for numerous years with OVA, with teams and ages ranging from the top OVA 18's down to the OVA 12's travel teams. He brings a wealth of technical expertise to the game and is well regarded in the coaching community.
Daisy Parks (12 Nationals):Daisy is the Frosh coach at Mountain View, and has been coaching numerous age groups for over 12 years. Daisy's 12 Nationals team has finished in the top 12 at Regionals and finished in the 12 at the prestigous Pacific NW National Qualifier in Spokane - playing in the highly competitive Open division - and placed highly at the Southern California Soiree each of the past few seasons. Daisy's OVA teams have placed in the top 15 each year at Regionals.
Jessie Armstrong (14 Academy):Jessie played collegiately at Southern Oregon Univ. before starting her coaching career at Bend High School where she was the JV coach. A long-time coach for OVA, Jessie took her OVA 16's team and moved them up over 35 spots in Power League, finishing the year by winning their bracket at Regionals. Previous to that, Jessie took the reigns of the 14's Silver team two years ago and had one of the most remarkable seasons in memory.
Alicia Roe (14 Elevate) Alicia was a stand-out player at Bend High School and prior to moving back to Bend, she coached club for several years with a club in Colorado. She has been with OVA for the last several seasons and is currently the JV coach at Bend High School (her team was undefeated in 2014) and the best barista in town. Her 14's team has had remarkable success the last few years and we are looking forward to another great season with Alicia.
Kim Sustare (14 Power):Kim was a part of the very first OVA team way back in 2005 and played for OVA for four years during her high school career at Mountain View. Kim was named to the 1st Team All State and 1st Team All IMC in 2008, before going on to play in college and receiving several all conference awards there. Kim is a veteran of numerous college camps and has been an assistant coach with the Mountain View, Summit and Bend High volleyball teams. Last year her 14's travel team won several Power Leagues and she led them on a steep rise thru the rankings.
Ann Rivera (16 Local): Ann played Division I volleyball at Pepperdine University and went on to play 5 seasons professionally in Europe. She competed on the professional beach tours in Spain, England and the U.S. She faced Kerri Walsh and Misty May 7 times during her time playing on the AVP. Ann has over 20 years coaching experience indoor and on the beach. Most recently she has worked with individual athletes off the court to help them create a more positive mindset to improve performance, along with team workshops for bonding and goal setting.
Kalei Lucas (16 Local): Kalei is a lifelong volleyball player and has coached with OVA for five seasons. Kalei actually played for Turner Waskom on his High Desert 16 Elite team when she was in high school, a starter on the team that finished in the top 5 at Regionals. Kalei had a stellar high school career and returned to OVA to coach and share her love of the game with her athletes. She is very knowledgeable about the game and brings a caring, but no-nonsense approach to her teams.
Liz Hewitt (14's Local):Liz has a coaching record that would take more content that the internet can handle to list it all. Now a coach of a State Champion (Bend 2016), she is one of the top 10 winningest volleyball coaches in Oregon history, has won the IMC and Oregon Coach of the Year award on numerous occassions, and coached Bend High School to a 4th place finish back when all the big schools played in the same category. Liz has helped numerous players improve and go on to play in college and is well known, and well respected, amongst the coaching community.
Gale Putnam (14's Local):Gale is the current head volleyball coach at Pilot Butte Middle School and has been a longtime coach for OVA. Prior to OVA, she coached at Bend High for 10 years and also coached for Deschutes VBC, Oregon Suns and High Desert VBC. She is CAP Certified Level 1 and 2 (way to go Gale!) and always brings a fun atmosphere her team's practices and is constantly coming up with new drills or techniques to help coach the fundamentals.
Brook Castle (14's Local): Brook is going on her 7th season as part of the OVA staff. She graduated from Sisters High School, where her team won a state championship and she was named an All State player her senior year. She also played club for OVA, joining one of the original Nationals team coached by JJ and Emily Riley. Brook has coached youth aged 12 years old to collegiate players and enjoys being a mentor, leader and educator to her players. She holds a degree in pre-med kinesiology and is highly involved in the nutrition world where she works in her own business making plant-based foods. We are excited to have Brook join us for another season!
Karen Doorn (12's Local): Karen is currently the Frosh volleyball coach at Summit High School and played D1 volleyball at the University of Nevada, Reno, where she was an Outside Hitter and Defensive Specialist. She has been coaching athletes from the 3rd grade thru high school for the past 5 years and loves to share her passion for volleyball with her athletes. We are very excited to have Coach Kate on staff.
Peter Santucci (12 Local):Pete grew up playing volleyball in southern California, starting out on sand courts before learning and loving to play indoors. He has been coaching the sport for the past seven years at several middle schools, including Bend’s Pacific Crest Middle School, High Desert Middle School and Seven Peaks School. He has focused his coaching on middle schoolers, wanting to instill strong fundamental skills and a passion for the sport during this key phase in each player’s development. Combining simple fun with a competitive spirit, his teams have always been successful. This is his second year as an OVA coach.
Violet Mills (12 local):Violet has played competitive volleyball for the last 7 years. She played on 14 nationals, 16 nationals and Mountain View High School Varsity. She has been an assistant coach for OVA 12 Nationals for four years and loves the game. Her specialty is setter although she has knowledge on all positions. She plans on playing in college and continuing to coach. This will be Violets second year of coaching with OVA and her team will be assisted by her mom, Violet, the head coach of the 12's Nationals team.
Lydia Santucci (12's Local):Lydia has been around volleyball her entire life. She has played for 14's Nationals and 16's Nationals at OVA, being a starter on teams that finished in the top 10 in the region. Along with playing the past three seasons at Summit, Lydia has participated in numerous camps in and around the Pacific Northwest and coached at both Summit camps and assisted with her dad's teams (her father is Peter Santucci, 12's Local coach). She enjoys coaching, sharing her love of the game, and helping build these young athletes into great volleyball players and strong young women. Lydia will be assisted by her father this season to add additional support and guidance to the players.
